How Effective Is An Enzyme Exfoliation?

Skincare ingredient lists have adopted a more comestible quality of late. Lacura has launched a new skincare range in Aldi, inspired by fruit. From my unboxing video of Lacura on Instagram, you would have seen that each colourfully packaged product represents a fruit, such as the Banana Souffle Face Cream or the Papaya Enzyme Face Scrub. I appreciate the concept, which promotes nutritional eating combined with a healthy skincare routine. Perhaps the fruit has another superpower: boosting skin health.

5 Benefits of Lacura Enzyme Scrub.

After cleansing, I applied a small amount of Papaya Enzyme scrub onto my face and neck, gently messaging in circular motions. As recommended, leave this product on for one minute for an enzymatic exfoliation which breaks down the ‘glue’ that holds dead skin cells together. The benefits of such exfoliations are as follows:

  1. Fruit enzyme exfoliation helps to supercharge the rest of your skincare routine.

“Fruit enzymes will make the products you use afterwards absorb more easily into the skin, improving their efficacy.” – Noella Gabriel, Co-founder and President of ELEMIS.

2. Fruit enzymes are beneficial for those with sensitive skin.

3. Enzymatic exfoliants are gentler on the skin, using enzymes as opposed to abrasive granules. Enzymes help to break down the keratin in the skin’s upper layers which helps it lift off anything dead.

“A physical facial scrub can be too abrasive and leave skin red and irritated if you’re prone to sensitivity. However, because fruit enzymes have a cut-off point for dissolving dry and dead skin cells, you can’t over-exfoliate. Similarly, fruit enzymes work instantly without the need for rubbing, which makes them gentler on the skin.” Noella Gabriel.

4. Enzyme exfoliants use fruit enzymes from papaya, hence the Lacura Papaya Enzyme Face Scrub.

5. Regular exfoliation helps to break down oil, dirt and dead skin.

Hydrating & Rejuvenating With Lacura.

Before moisturising, I applied two drops of Lacura Plum Hyaluronic Serum to my face, containing three antioxidant-rich plum extracts (Kakadu, Burdekin and Illawarra) to hydrate and rejuvenate the skin’s appearance. Following on from this, I applied a small amount of the Avocado Bright Eyes Overnight Retinol Mask to the undereye area, to which my skin didn’t take very well, causing it to flake the morning after.

I tend to disregard any products that irritate within 24 hours of application. As much as I appreciated the idea of an avocado retinol mask, I would recommend using a tiny amount of this product for those with sensitive skin. Furthermore, I usually purchase mildly scented skincare products, as highly fragranced ones can be off-putting. The Lacura H2 Overnight Mask, on the contrary, agreed with my skin which I left on overnight for my skin to absorb. I woke up to glowing cheeks. The Banana Souffle Face Cream is also highly fragranced; hence, I used a small amount without experiencing a reaction. Overall, I love the packaging and brand concept, but the products’ fragrance is quite overpowering for me.
