All good things come in beautiful packages. Why not celebrate our coming out of lockdown, which commenced on the 4th of July, with a bottle of happiness? Ironically, the latter is not about alcohol but rather a bottle of perfume from La Route De Soie—”The Silk Route”—a luxurious perfume collection created by perfumer Linda Pilkington. Not only is Linda the brainchild of La Route De Soie but she established the British perfume house, Ormonde Jayne, in 2000 from which her new collection evolved. Linda took me on a virtual tour of her new range which comprises of seven evocative perfumes. All fragrances are noteworthy and distinctively charming.

I sampled Levant, Damask, Tanger, and Byzance as an introduction to the collection. Initially, the prominent notes of Damask’s pear, blackcurrant buds, and mask resonated with me. I appreciate long-lasting fragrances including Marc Jacob’s Descendance or Acqua Di Parma which make a statement through their scent thus suitable for the evening. Damask is notably strong, but my ultimate favourite was Levant Eau De Parfum. The subtle floral scent of Levant captivates your attention slowly; hence it’s popularity amongst flower lovers. I adore flowers thus couldn’t resist Levant’s notes of rose petals, lily of the valley, peony and orange blossom. Ormonde Jayne kindly sent me a 50ml bottle of Levant as a gift.

The scent of Levant is subtle, thus more appropriate as a day perfume. Indeed, it is a bottle of happiness with which to celebrate the end of lockdown, packaged beautifully in an elegant, orange box. The juxtaposition of orange and metallic gold is elegant. The style of branding is professional and would attract a lady of discerning taste. I appreciate everything about this brand. Linda Pilkington prides herself on quality, sophistication and class.

Overall, an outfit is not complete without a perfume that makes you feel just as young, smart, and sexy. The entire collection of La Route De Soie is on general release in autumn of 2020. You will find Ormonde Jayne’s flagship store in The Royal Arcade, Bond Street. Stockists include Fenwick, Fortnum & Mason, Harrods, and Selfridges. A signature perfume is subject to personal choice. However, La Route De Soie is enticing and sensual just like the texture of silk.
